Charge Shine in All-Star Exhibition

CLEVELAND, OH – The Cleveland Charge of the NBA G League, presented by Cleveland Clinic, held of the NBA G League Ignite team by a 96-92 tally in the inaugural NBA G League Next Gem Game during the 2022 NBA All Star weekend. The Next Gem Game was an opportunity to showcase some of the top young players in the NBA G League as part an homage to the NBA’s 75th Anniversary “diamond” season.

Malik Newman led all scorers with 30 points in 32 minutes, shooting 50% from the floor, while recording six rebounds and three assists. Justin James followed with 17 points, as well as six boards and three assists. Big-man Tacko Fall notched a double-double with 12 points and 10 boards with three blocks in 26 minutes of action. Two-Way Player RJ Nembhard recorded 12 points, eight rebounds, and two assists in 31 minutes.

Jalen Hardy paced Ignite with 20 points along with four boards and two assists. Dyson Daniels tallied a double-double of 18 points and 13 rebounds in 37 minutes along with six assists. Scoot Henderson came off the bench to add 13 points and seven rebounds in 29 minutes.

After a tightly contested first quarter, Ignite jumped out to a 16-point lead over seven minutes. A three from Newman sparked the Charge on a 12-0 run over two minutes, going into the halftime break down four. With 11 lead changes in the second half, it came down to the final minutes when Tre Scott hit the go-ahead bucket from behind the arc off the assist from Newman with two minutes left.
