Charge Use Second Quarter Run to Roll to Win

GRAND RAPIDS, MI – The Cleveland Charge (9-10) defeated the Grand Rapids Gold (9-10), 117-94, in front of 3,331 at the Van Andel Arena on Wednesday night.
With the Charge trailing 27-26 nearly midway through the second quarter, the team scored 21 straight points and rolled off a 34-2 run to take a commanding lead that they would never relinquish. Emoni Bates scored 14 of his 24 points in the second, as Cleveland outscored Grand Rapids 36-16 overall in the second and held the hosts to 27% from the field.
In his Charge debut, Craig Porter Jr. scored 27 points on 11-of-18 from the field with six assists in 34 minutes on assignment from the Cavaliers. Sharife Cooper set a new franchise record for steals in a game with eight to go along with 16 points, 12 assists, and seven rebounds in 38 minutes. Bates finished with a double-double of 24 points and 10 boards in 38 minutes. Isaiah Mobley posted a double-double of 13 points and 12 rebounds in 37 minutes. Pete Nance also added a double-double of 10 points and 13 boards with two steals in 29 minutes. Dexter Dennis made his Charge debut as well, scoring 16 points with six rebounds and four steals in 28 minutes off the bench.
The Gold were led by former Charge F Jamorko Pickett’s 27 points, 11 rebounds, and two blocks in 41 minutes. Walter Ellis scored 18 points on 6-of-11 from three-point range, and Souley Boum came off the bench to score 20 points and dish six assists in 24 minutes. The Charge have won four straight meetings with the Gold.
