Z Man's Blog: Off & Running

By Cleveland Charge Staff /December 5, 2023

Long time, no talk! Good to be back with you recapping and keeping you updated on your favorite NBA G League team. So, let’s get to it, shall we?

The Charge got off to a pretty good start to their 3rd season playing in downtown Cleveland as they finished the month of November with a 5-3 record, including a sparkling 4-0 mark on the home floor.

The season started with 2 wins at home over the visiting Wisconsin Herd, including an opening night win in front of a Charge franchise record home crowd of 5,032 enthusiastic fans. Spearheading the win was an electrifying performance from Cavaliers 2-way forward Emoni Bates. All Emoni did in his first ever pro game was drop 29 points, including 7 of 12 from three-point land. Following a second win over the Herd 2 nights later, the Charge suffered their first loss of the season on the road at Sioux Falls against a tough Skyforce team.

The Charge then continued on the road, splitting 2 games in Windy City against the Bulls before dropping a tough decision in Motor City against the Cruise despite another 29-point effort from Bates in front of family and friends.

The good guys then finally returned home to knock off the Grand Rapids Gold in back-to-back games to finish off the month, holding the visitors to just 91 points per game on 38% shooting, including just 27% from 3.

In addition to the play of Bates, another Cavs 2-way player, Isaiah Mobley picked up right where he left off a year ago. Through the first month, Isaiah averaged a double-double of over 21 points and 10 rebounds ( 5th best in the G ), while adding over 4 assists.

The month of December looks to be an interesting one as the Charge will travel to Motor City once again before returning to the Wolstein Center for a double dip with the newly re-branded Indiana Mad Ants. After that, pack your bags as it will be 2 games in Iowa against the Wolves before heading to Florida for the annual Winter Showcase, now being held in Orlando. 4 games on a 10-day trip, you gotta love it. And if you have any packing tips for a trip this long, I’m all ears. The Charge then return home for the Christmas holiday with 2 games against the Long Island Nets to close out the calendar year.

So, that’ll do it to it for this one, stay warm and enjoy the holidays. I’ll talk at you at the start of 2024.
