Zman's Blog: CHARGE SEASON OPENING
By Cleveland Charge Staff /December 2, 2022
Well, that was fun! With the first month of the 2022 / 2023 GLeague season under way for the Charge, things are looking pretty good so far.
With 7 of the first 12 games of the season on the road, the Charge had their work cut out for them, but they responded nicely by not only winning 4 straight to start the season, but 3 in a row away from home as well to end the month of November at 8-4 overall, 5-0 at home.
The new season got off to a great start as Sam Merrill became the first player in GLeague history to win a game in overtime via the new target scoring system with a top of the arc dagger 3 ball in the season opening win over Motor City. Other highlights during the first month of games included holding Wisconsin to a franchise opponent low 10 points in the 4th quarter, a 61% shooting effort vs. Sioux Falls, 19 rebounds from Jamorko Pickett against the Herd, Nate Hinton tying a franchise record with 7 steals at Ft. Wayne, and Sharife Cooper being named Player of the Week for games between the 14th and 20th after averaging 27 points and 7 assists, with games of 42 and 40. Not to mention, Isaiah Mobley being even better than advertised, averaging 21 points, including 2 games of 26, while posting 3 double doubles in 7 games with the Charge. Told you it was a fun month.
November ended with a season ticket holder Meet the Team event at Wild Eagle Saloon where fans and players mingled and played games together. Lots of smiles, selfies, and fun as everyone on hand had a good time.
Up next? The month of December brings 4 home games, including the Wednesday, December 28th game vs. Grand Rapids for Space Jam Night. And just prior to the Christmas holiday will be the Winter Showcase in Las Vegas where the top 8 teams compete for the Showcase Cup championship, something the Charge are currently in the hunt for.
So, there you have it, one month down and so far, so good. This reporter certainly thinks things should continue to trend upward moving forward. Hope you’ll join us for the ride.
Talk at you in the new year. Till then, all the best to you and yours during the holiday season.
